We saved these chairs for you. We hoped you'd stay a while,
and feel what we feel.
When we look out onto the Lake or scan the rugged landscape,
we seem a world away from home with our normal daily tasks, and the news of
another terrorist bombing somewhere, a mass shooting in the USA, or the wretched
civil war in Syria. Until just now, I hadn't thought of any of them in days.
Yesterday, when speaking to an Ojibwe gentleman, he explained
the native life was a simple life. He was a big man with a shy smile, spoke
softly, and had an interesting presence
about him. In our short chat, we felt his connection to the land and love for
his family.
Having spent a couple
of minutes with that gentleman, and hiking the landscape of Northern Lake
Superior, we can feel the spirit of simplicity here too.
