Lastly, from High Above on the Napali Coast

The rugged and picturesque Napali Coast is one of Kauai's special features. It's 11 miles or almost 20 kms long, and so far we had only seen about 2 miles of it. So, we thought it was the place we'd go to say farewell.

We hiked from the west ridge of Wiamea Canyon out to the coast. The weather forecast was not good but it was our last chance.

The hike out was heavily treed so even though it was an enjoyable hike, there wasn't much to see. The clouds were building as we got closer to the coast, so we didn't waste any time. When we broke out of the forest cover, the view was spectacular.

Two other groups had arrived ahead of us, but when it started to rain, they headed back, leaving the magical place just for us. The rain was soft and left the landscape in an eerie fog.
But it wasn't long until the skies started to brighten and soon after, the rain ended. We were so high up, we were looking down at the helicopters touring the coast. Kayakers below were barely visible with the naked eye.

We ate, rested, and took many pictures with varying lights as the weather continued to improve. We reflected on our time in Kauai, and the wonderful adventures we'd had. The moment was bitter sweet, leaving such a wonderful place, ending our vacation, and at the same time looking forward to getting home to family and friends.
