Our Villa

We flew from Athens to Crete, picked up our rented Fiat Panda, and drove Greek style to our rental accommodation in Kerames. More about driving Greek style later in another story. Kerames is a small village perched on the side of a mountain overlooking the sea, in the south central part of the Island.

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised at the villa Marlene had selected via the internet. We had expected a smaller cottage, but in reality it would be better described as a villa. Its most redeeming features are the two patios and a roof top terrace. Each with colourful flowering plants and trees, varying shade from the hot sun, and view.

The views of the surrounding mountainside and sea are quite spectacular.

When out enjoying the view, we also take pleasure in the sounds. With regularity, there's the sound of a sheep baaing, the soft bong of a goat bell, roosters crowing, a dog barking, the Greek neighbours in boisterous conversation, and on the hour, the church bell echoes through the village.

It's not noisy as such, each sound seems to take its turn with its own degree of prominence; the church bell being centre stage, and others more distant or in the background.

In all, at our villa, there's an ambience of Cretan Island life humming along under the Grecian sky.
