Most of you might expect our next adventure would be back
to the Rock; Newfoundland, Rose Blanche and Katie-Lew, but that's not the case.
Instead of heading east, we're going west to the Rockies, BC and Vancouver
Island. We have a need to visit some family in Victoria, and at the same time,
we'd like to renew some old acquaintances living nearby.
Our trip will start by flying to Calgary where we'll rent a
car, then spend 4 days touring the Rockies on route to Vancouver Island. I haven't
been in the Rockies since the late 1970s and it'll be Marlene's first time.
Now, she loved scenic Switzerland, so I expect she will enjoy Banff, Jasper and
beyond.
We have a cottage rented for our stay on
Vancouver Island's southwest coast. That will be our base for taking day trips
around the Island over 10 days or so.
Homeward bound, we'll take a southerly route back through
British Columbia. This part of the trip has yet to be detailed, but we expect
it to include a day in the Okanagan Valley.
We're expecting winter to be holding on in the mountains but
looking forward to the early spring on the Pacific Coast. We hope to do some
gentle hiking in the Rockies if we can get by without snowshoes, then on the
Island, we'd like to do some beachcombing.
Even though we'll still be in Canada, meaning no currency,
language or healthcare issues, we're still
expecting the unexpected. The unexpected always brings some adventure that
often results in our most memorable travel moments.
Lastly, the trip wouldn't be the same without you,
so we hope you'll join us as we head west to the Rockies then on through BC to
Vancouver Island.
