Hawaiian Sunshine - Blessing or Curse

We are pretty much living dawn to dusk. By the time the sun rises, we're often en route to our planned activity for the day. The sunrises are as beautiful as the sunsets, but we haven't been prepared to sacrifice the time to just stop and appreciate them for their beauty. We know by 2 hours after it rises, it's rays will start to become uncomfortably warm for hiking or other strenuous non water activity. By then, it's on with the sunscreen, hat and lose clothing. The only other saviours are a good breeze and cloudy periods. We've learned the Hawaiian sun is not only beautiful but it can also be brutal.

Even for a snorkelling event, we look for the sun to get high enough in the sky to illuminate the colourful coral and fish. But often, the sand is too hot on the feet to get to the water's edge with bare feet.

By the end of an active day, we always look forward to the sunset. A half hour or so before it sets, we feel relief as the rays cool off. About the same time, many people make their way to the best vantage points to stake their spot, usually with camera in hand. Sunsets over the ocean are of course spectacular.

We often plan dinner around the sunset, and compliment them both with a glass of wine.
